Why you should use 1/2oz copper over conventional 1oz or even surplus 2oz...
To be able to etch very fine traces, you have to reduce the thickness of the coper laminate because "undercutting" is directly proportional to copper thickness. The simple solution for getting very fine traces is to stop using 1oz copper. (Our boards are high quality fiberglass with 1/2oz copper laminated to the surface which cuts your etching time in half... allowing you to have traces 1/2 the minimum width you would otherwise be required to use with 1oz copper.

When the exposed copper to be removed is being etched away... lowering its height around the edges of the etch mask, the developing trace "wall" under the mask begins to be etch sideways! Looking at the copper trace on end would resemble an inverted triangle.

With too much undercutting, traces will literally disappear as the undercutting, eating from both sides of the trce, meeting up in the middle. The only way to reduce undercutting is to reduce the length of etch time. The only way to reduce etch time is to reduce the thickness of the copper on the board.
